Important Checklist - what to bring

 Easy to arrange!

Clinics are easy to organize...just email us to see if we are available on the dates you have in mind, and we can "talk you through" all the steps you'll need to bring it together.

 Lessons

Helmet    All riders of all sports and all levels need to wear a current approved safety helmet with strap correctly fitted for insurance purposes.

Green horse -vs- experienced horse?    It's probably best to bring your quieter more experienced horse so we can focus on you, and you can relax and be at your best.

Private  -vs-  Shared Lesson?   Instead of ONE private ... have TWO SHARED lessons instead.  You will get far more value for your money.

Riders - Bring helpers!     Bring your family members for free.   It really does make your day easier & more fun.

Please stay & watch.  Get the most out of your own lesson by staying to watch other lessons - as many as you can.  A very rewarding day out.

   Payments

Lessons must be paid for 2 weeks in advance.   Clinic organizers are asked to collect payments and send them in one lump sum.

See  How to pay for lessons.

 Evening Lectures - club fundraising

Donated evening club lectures start at 7:00pm and finish around 9:30pm, and all funds raised at the door go to your club's fundraising.

You will need:

  1.  The Venue  Get a hall or meeting room DONATED (so you don't waste your fundraising money).  Most municipal councils, Scout Halls, or conference centers are happy to donate a room if it is for a  fundraiser.

  2.  Coffee or Snacks   Run a cafeteria, or have light snacks included in the door price - a great way to increase the club's fundraising!

  3.  PowerPoint Display   I would love to provide you with a wonderful Powerpoint demo, if you can arrange the following to be donated:

                     a)   A laptop (with PowerPoint)
                     b)   Projector
                     c)   Large screen
                     d)   A technical person to put it together

  4.  Auction Items    After interval, why not have an auction of donated items such as gift certificates, restaurant dinners, horse items etc.  It always amazes me that the smallest, most remote clubs nearly always raise the most amount of money through donations of items to auction.

  5.  Collecting money  for the club    Funds raised at the evening lecture go directly to the club for their fundraising.  Please arrange for a person at the door to collect monies.

 Morning (or lunchtime) Demonstrations

Morning demonstrations start at 8:30am, and go until 10:00am, with lessons following on afterwards.   Here's what you'll need.

  1.  The Venue   An INDOOR arena is preferred, however, if your group only has an outdoor, try approaching local indoor venue owners.  Often arena owners will donate their arena for the fundraiser, and in return for the information they gain, plus the promotion for their venue as well.

  2.  Demo riders (Get a FREE lesson!)    Arrange 2 demo riders of your best standard, on quiet horses.  A great "reward" for people who help in your club.  A BRILLIANT way to get a lesson for free!   It's lots of fun, and non-threatening or embarrassing at all.

  3.  Music    Can you please provide a portable CD player, or a car that can be parked inside or close to the arena to play a CD.  I will then bring special riding/freestyle music.

  4.  Collecting money    Funds raised at the morning (or lunchtime) demos go towards Colleen's airfare or travel costs.  Please arrange someone to collect monies at the gate.

  5.  Spectator Comfort & Information    We need to keep spectators comfortable, so advise them if they need to bring chairs, think of tea/coffee facilities (ideal for more fundraising).  Truck parking is also very important.   For outdoor areas, rain and sunburn are your two biggest issues.  Think of the possibility of a portable tent/coverall even for a few of the older riders (and Colleen who is out there all day).

 Accommodation & Meals

Accommodation and all meals at a club member's home need to be arranged for Colleen and sometimes an assistant.  If this is not possible, then the club needs to arrange and pay for a local motel.

Due to recent health issues with lupus, fibromyalgia and serious back problems, I would appreciate any help you can give us with carrying bags, arranging for chairs, and helping out with light vegetarian meals.

 Transport

I do not charge for airfares, however, if you are the only clinic, ground transfer to and from the airport needs to be paid for or arranged by a member of your group.

If there is a clinic before & after you, it is up to you to pay for or to arrange transport from one venue to another, so please contact the organizer before you and the organizer after you well in advance to ensure that transfers from one venue to another are possible, and go smoothly.

 Promoting your event

To gain the most from your fundraising, you need to promote the event as much as possible.   How one club did it:  Hoofbeats Magazine Article
